Mini-Tyke Flag Football

Mini-tyke flag football starts in August and runs through to late-October. It’s intended to give the kids a fun introduction to the sport – and get them back to other pursuits once the weather starts to turn nasty. This level is for 5- and first time players who are 6-year. This program is an in house league and may be run in partnership with another club against whom the Hyacks teams compete against in a fun series of games. Mini-tyke is 5-a-side played on a mini field (20 yards wide) with a smaller ball appropriately sized for little hands. Physical contact is discouraged (no blocking).

Tuesdays & Thursdays, times to be confirmed. In the fall, one weekly practice is moved indoors to help reduce time spent outside in inclement weather.

One game per week, 45 minutes long, starting September Labour Day Weekend and going to the end of October. Games are on Friday nights (early evening) or Sunday mornings (9:00 am).
Registrants for both mini-tyke and tyke football are both initially placed in the Tyke division by our registration system. Don’t worry, we’ll make sure your child is added to the correct program and team!

February to June

Spring Flag Football

Spring flag football offers children ages 8 to 19 the opportunity to learn football skills in a non-contact, competitive 5-on-5 format. Teams are in age-group divisions (U10, U12 U14 U16 and U19) and compete in a league against other teams from around the Lower Mainland.

Start late February or early March and run Monday to Friday from 5 pm to 8pm. Each team will get two 1-to-2-hour practices on designated evenings during the week.

The season consists of 6 weekend jamboree-style tournaments (~2-3 hours on either a Saturday or Sunday). Games start in mid to late April and run through May.

Elementary School Football Unit

In April, May, and June, the NWSS Hyack football program goes to schools in the district to teach a football unit. Our coaches are students in Douglas College’s Sports Science or Education programs and are also recent NWSS grads and aspiring teachers. They will run the units at each school with the assistance of school staff members.

These will be non-padded, non-contact sessions, focusing on basic fundamental skills. The priority will be to keep all the kids moving and having fun while learning and getting exposure to our sport. NWSS Hyack Football Club will provide all the equipment for this program to run.

Please check our events calendar for specific dates.
