Royal City Hyacks Football Club

To all Hyack Football parents,

Great news came today: The BCPFA has had its Return to Sport Plan for Football approved and has given all member leagues and clubs the green light to begin preparations and registration for the 2020 season.

Before any organizations can begin registration and practicing, we must prepare and submit our own Return to Play plan, and present that to the VMFL, BCPFA and the City of New Westminster. Our RCHFC plan must be based on the BCPFA`s plan and specific to the own needs of our club and facility. The BCPFA`s RTS plan is attached, and as you can see, it is extremely detailed and well thought out. In order for us to execute this at Mercer Stadium, it will require additional volunteer support, as we all work diligently to find a way for our children to safely play the sport they love in these unique circumstances.

Please familiarize yourself with this document and please see where you might be able to assist. First and foremost, we are looking for safety coordinators for each of our levels to assist in executing this plan. One of the items you will find in the attached plan is the limitation on parent spectators, similar to what other sports are currently doing. So a great way to be able to be around the field and watch your sons/daughters practicing and playing will be to volunteer in this capacity. We need to be certain that we have the infrastructure to deliver football safely and effectively, before we commit to fielding our teams, so please step up and assist, this year more than ever!

In the meantime, we are setting up our registration and beginning our promotions for the upcoming season. For now, we are asking all parents to please respond to this email (at by indicating your interest in registering your child for football and we will immediately put your child on the priority waiting list. Once our website is ready to launch early next week, we will be sending those parents who responded a priority email giving them 48 hours to complete registration, before we open up registration to the masses. This year there will be smaller roster sizes due to restriction on gathering sizes, so spots will be at a premium. So please email your child`s name, birth year, phone number and email to ASAP and reserve your spot. Practices will begin on July 13th

The Royal City Hyacks Football Club is fully committed to our mission of building social connections and bringing people together to celebrate the sport that we all love.

We are currently navigating the COVID-19 situation collectively with our partner sports clubs and governing bodies. We appreciate your support as we work through this rapidly evolving situation. Our primary concern is for the safety of our players, coaches, parents, volunteers and community. In response to yesterday's announcement by the BC Government to temporarily cancel all events with gatherings larger than 250 people, we will be postponing ALL practices until after Spring Break with a tentative starting date for practices on April 7 2020.

Although we would not be at 250, we do have approximately 150+ (players, parents, siblings, coaches and trainers) that will be in close contact with each other.

Please be assured that we are not the only club taking these precautions.  We feel that this is the best course of action for our Club to take at this time. We are working diligently with our partners to confirm details that can be shared. We will continue to actively monitor the situation as we get closer to April. As for right now the spring season is continuing.

We all need to be engaged in responding to this threat and helping to slow the spread of this virus in our communities. We appreciate your ongoing support as we collectively navigate through this time of uncertainty and look forward to a healthy, robust spring, summer and fall season.

RCHFC President
